Guardian Piece on the Cesspit
|
https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2017/may/04/west-ham-first-season-london-stadium-slaven-bilic
`West Ham’s players have played ball in public, obligingly telling the world about what a thrill it is to play in such a wonderfully modern stadium, even though they have suffered some dreadful humiliations there this season. But the truth is different in private, where the brave faces disappear and the grumbling begins. Slaven Bilic’s team feel so uneasy in the new stadium that one senior player describes the Stratford experience as “terrible”.
`That closeness, that claustrophobia, has been conspicuous by its absence this season. Because of the running track, the players struggle to feel the atmosphere and the distance from the pitch prevents the crowd from getting on top of visiting teams. The place simply feels too big for a team of West Ham’s stature at the moment`

We're not allowed to assume anything other than players do not care about where they play just money.
A random on here told me that so it must be true.

It's obvious to me that the players find the place wide open in comparison to the compact ground that was home.
However that does not excuse some of the laudable performances the team have conjured up in our new home.

Guess that must be me Johnson.
Strange how the opposition dont seem to struggle!
Perhaps the players need to suck it up, reach acceptance, and get on with it, just like (most of) the fans have had to do.
If the players put the effort on the pitch, the fans will create the atmosphere- if they give us a flat performance, they'll be rewarded with 0 atmosphere - pretty mush the same as Upton Park

Laudable performances?
So they conjured up some good games then?

farc, wrong word I should have written dismal or something like that.
The Chelsea league cup game was the only laudable one to me so far.

Maybe it's like a breath of fresh air playing in a vast massive concrete bowl compared to what we HAD at the Boleyn.... all I ever here from oppo' players is that they dreaded coming to our old place... and there was reasons why... now you need an carrier pigeon to abuse the oppo' they are so far away...

'Strange how the opposition dont seem to struggle!'
bar the odd game, most have been boring 1.0s, 0.0 or non-exciting shit games in general.
Been a terrible experience for 80% I reckon. The touchline/dugout is the biggest farce.

The funniest shit I've read on here about the OS was that it had NO atmosphere, before them complaining about a toxic atmosphere and crowd rucks upsetting the players!

You do get how football works yeah?
Away teams don't struggle, as they're not having to put up with a hostile in their face atmosphere like they did at Upton Park.

away teams bloody love it!! the pitch is perfect and they get no grief or pressure from the home support. it's like a neutral venue for them - we've completely given up the idea of 'home advantage'.

Funny thing is Sold, you were trying to stick up for Bilic a couple of weeks back saying our results and performances are no different to other past seasons. Like our expectations shouldn't be higher.

Do people seriously think that hardened professional footballers actually "dread" going to another ground.?
No they don't but they do realise that for some teams playing in their own midden is a real advantage. There have been cases where players of let's say a sensitive nature have been apprehensive of playing at home because of fans personalisation of their performances. Here I can see why a player prefers being away.

almost every team in the football league has a better home record than away.
there is a clear advantage to playing at your own ground, with the backing of the majority of support. we've lost this advantage.

NS. That's looking through rise tinted glasses. The opponents were so scared that we always won at the Boleyn! You're old enough to remember too many shit games there and losses. It was never a fortress apart from a couple of seasons I can think of.I'm not defending the OS but reckon the players, notice no names mentioned, are looking for reasons for so many shit performances this season

So it'd be better if we were a team with greater stature? Weird.
